A great smelling house is one of my favorite ways to level up my homemaking. After getting everything clean and organized… turning on the diffuser, lighting a candle, or spritzing an all-natural spray is the cherry on top.
A homemade linen spray is a perfect way to freshen up your linens and make the rooms in your home smell like a spa.
There are of course linen sprays that you can buy in stores or online. But making them yourself is so much more fun!
When you make your own DIY linen spray you can customize the scents, and make sure that its all-natural AND sustainable.
Using a linen spray will help you to create the perfect mood for your home and rooms. If its later in the evening you can spritz a calming spray for a more relaxing ambiance. If its early morning, try an energizing combination.
I’ll give you two of my favorite recipe combinations below. But feel free to experiment with other essential oil scents if you want to! Just be sure to test your spray on a scrap of fabric to make sure it won’t stain your linens.

Homemade Linen Spray With Essential Oils
First things first, you’ll need a small spray bottle. I love THESE ones on Amazon. They’re the perfect size, amber glass, and come with a great, spritzing nozzle.
Whenever you’re making anything with essential oils (which is what this linen spray has), you’ll want to use glass bottles, and preferably a dark glass like amber. Some essential oils can be corrosize, and they keep better when they’re not exposed to light.

DIY Linen Spray Recipe
Linen Spray Ingredients:
- 2 ounces distilled water
- 1 ounce rubbing alcohol
- 25-35 drops essential oils
Note: I didn’t measure my water and alcohol, I just did two parts water to one part alcohol, it will be different depending on how big your spray bottles are. Just use a 2:1 ratio!
Energizing Spray
Make spray with ingredients above and use 20 drops grapefruit essential oil and 15 drops lemon essential oil.
Calming Spray
Make spray with ingredients above and use 35 drops lavender essential oil.
How to Use a Linen Spray
Combine all the ingredients in your spray bottle. Put the lid on and give it a good shake. Spritz it on linens such as bedding and sheets, pillows, blankets, curtains, as needed.
To be safe, always TEST your spray on a scrap fabric or the backside of your linens. You want to make sure the fabric won’t react to it and that it won’t stain. These recipes shouldn’t cause any staining, but you always want to make sure!
When to Use a Linen Spray
Use your citrus linen spray in the mornings after you’ve cleaned up the house. Spritz it on your pillows, bedding, and curtains. It will perk up the areas and give your home a refresh before you start your day.
On the contrast, you can use your calming linen spray in the evenings when you’re ‘putting the house to bed‘. Lavender is known for relaxation, so this spray is better used in the evenings.
